Regional Facts
Wimberley is located in South central Hays County
in the edge of the beautiful Texas Hill Country at the convergence of Cypress
Creek and the Blanco River. Although it has a rather sizable population (the
Post Office delivers to over 5,000 households), Wimberley has only recently
incorporated. The weather is typical for the hill country with hot summers and
mild winters, averaging 300 days of sunshine and 37 inches of rain a
year.
Wimberley is a popular tourist stop, well known for its many art
and specialty shops. The population swells on the first Saturday of April
through December as thousands of shoppers from as far away as Houston and
Dallas converge for "Market Days" - a huge (over 400
booths) open air shopping experience for art, antiques, plants and practical
"stuff". Utilities Water is supplied
by Wimberley Water Supply (847-2323), Aqua Source (Woodcreek 847-2972), or
private wells. Electricity is furnished by Pedernales Electric Cooperative
(512-262-2161). Telephone service is supplied by Verizon (800-483-4400).
Sanitary Sewage is handled by septic tanks and sewer system (parts of
Woodcreek). Schools The Wimberley
Independent School District serves the surrounding rural area. Scudder
Elementary consists of grades Kindergarten through 2nd. The Bowen Campus houses
grades 3 through 5. The Junior High School includes grades 6 through 8. The
High School contains Freshman through Senior levels and is a class 3-A level in
sports. St. Stephens, a private Episcopal Church School, provides schooling
from 2 years through 8th grade. Katherine Ann Porter school is a public charter

Fire and EMS Wimberley
is served by an award-winning volunteer Fire Department and Emergency Medical
Service. Both respond to the County's 911 service. Select "Community -

Medical Services Medical Doctors, Dentists
and Chiropractors operate full time offices in Wimberley. Hospitals are
available in San Marcos and Austin. |
